The oil will not lose its prime when it is exposed to cold weather. You will likely be able to go more miles without an oil change if you use synthetic oil instead of conventional oil. It is possible for you to be able to go 7,500 to 10,000 miles without an oil change. However, if you use the standard mineral oil, then your vehicle may only be able to go 3,000 miles without the oil change.
Keep in mind that it does cost more to get a synthetic oil change than it does to get a conventional oil change. However, the money that you spend will be worth it because you will be able to keep the oil for a longer period of time.
